Old School, Full Body Strength for Men

Published almost 1 year ago • 2 min read

It is always inspiring to me when I dig up my old
muscle magazines from the 40s, 50s and 60s.

Those photos of John Grimek, Steve Reeves, Reg Park,
etc simply exude strength.

Yesterday I was at Sorinex HQ for the annual
Summer Strong, the event is beyond inspiring.

I am surrounded by physical culture and
old school strength to current day strength.

It reminds me.....

I LOVE Strength.

These men from decades and 100+ years ago,
had physiques that proved what could
be done with a few hard training sessions each week,
while eating a well balanced diet.

Meat, Eggs, Fish, Veggies, Fruits and some carbs.

Simple. Not easy.

Complications don't produce results.

The Work produces results.

The Basics will always WIN.

And those who work, will continue to WIN.

I want you to dial in your mindset and
stop messing around with mediocre lifestyle
habits.

While here in South Carolina, my buddy Joe and
I are eating strong and training hard.

There is no vacation from doing the right thing.

While on the forum of The Academy, one of our
members shared a video tour of his outdoor gym.

It is Spartan.

Basic old school York barbell.

You don't need fancy, you simply need the work.

Look at John Grimek's old school full body workouts.....

John Grimek’s Full Body Workout

Grimek published his Full Body Workout once he
retired from professional bodybuilding.

The main focus is on basic barbell compound
lifts and some isolation exercises.

A sample John Grimek workout routine is below.

Monday

  • Bench Press: 3 sets, 10 reps
  • Chin Ups or Pull Downs: 3 sets, 10 reps
  • Military Press: 3 sets, 10 reps
  • Barbell Curls: 3 sets, 10 reps
  • Squats: 3 sets, 10 reps

I am a believer in blending many training methods together because of who I work with; athletes and adult men. We need the old school bodybuilding for size and strength. Then, we need what is described today as "functional strength". Those words are a bit nerdy for me, as I think that phrasehas been played out a bit too much. Today, I trained using double Kettlebells, a 100 lb D Ball and calisthenics. It kicked my a** and I got worked in musclesthat I haven't worked for a while. This is why I...

Good morning, Gladiator. I am away on travels for my daughter's tennis and college visits. New England is beautiful. Sports have taken me to places that we normally would not visit although I've been herebefore. The fall before covid I held a powerful STRONG Life Experience in this very area. My buddy Chris Cav helped me secure a gym that wasin the "back of a gym", kinda like a fight club located behind the nice store front :) Then we had the next day at Spartan HQ when Joe DeSenawas in...

Happy Friday, fellow Gladiator. This week I have been bringing back some old school Underground Strength with the athletes. And let me tell ya, this generation needs it more sonow than when I brought this style of training to the forefront 20+ years ago. Less "speed and agility" class and more getting STRONG AF. Who else needs this training? MEN. Men are getting too carried away with pretty boy bodybuildingand have less strength than ever before. I shared a new video HERE. I have seen this...
